W. Squash Falls to Colby at National Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Cornell women's squash team won four of the top five spots in the lineup against Colby, but the Mules prevailed and defeated the Big Red 5-4 in the first round of the national championships. Cornell is competing for the Kurtz Cup, which is the "B" Division competition. Competition is taking place at Yale's Brady Squash Center.

Brook Stetson earned the Big Red's victory at the top spot, sweeping Morgan Pratt 9-0, 9-1, 9-1. Cory Warfield also won at No. 2, defeating Nikki Patel in a hard-fought match. Patel claimed the first set 10-8 and then fell 10-9 before rallying back 10-8 and 9-6 for the win.

Joanna Wolfson also came through with a win at the No. 4 position winning 9-5, 9-6, 9-2 over Maura Myers. The Big Red's final win was a 0-9, 9-4, 10-8, 9-6 win by Yasmin Fahr over Jen Barrett at the No. 5 spot.

Cornell will face Middlebury tomorrow at noon in a consolation round match. Other teams competing for the Kurtz Cup include Bowdoin, Colby, St. Lawrence, Bates, Vassar and Amherst.
