NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Cornell women's squash team won its final two matches at the Howe Cup National Championships to finish 13th overall. The Big Red earned a 9-0 win over Middlebury and then claimed a 6-3 win over St. Lawrence in its final match in the Kurtz Cup bracket, which was the "B" Division of the competition. The tournament took place at Yale's Brady Squash Center.

Trinity won this year's national title after defeating Yale 9-0 in the championship match.

Though the score indicated an easy win for Cornell, the 9-0 win over Middlebury was hard fought, as five of the matches went to five sets.

Cory Wakefield and Joanna Wolfson both rallied in their respective matches to come back and win after dropping their first sets. Warfield came back from a tough 8-10 loss to win 9-1, 9-6, 9-3 over Lisa Pilkington at No. 2. Wolfson fell 6-9 in her set and then came through with scores of 9-2, 9-0 and 9-1 to take the win at No. 4 over Elga Funston.

Becca Brier-Rosenfield had one of the faster wins of the competition, winning easily over Caitlin Flint at No. 7, 9-1, 9-0, 9-1.

In the final match for Cornell, the Big Red earned wins at the Nos. 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9 positions.

Warfield had her second battle of the weekend at the No. 2 spot and came out with a 3-2 win, taking the match 9-4, 3-9, 4-9, 9-4, 10-9. Rachel Perschetz also rallied for a 3-2 win, taking the No. 6 match 9-7, 6-9, 7-9, 9-0. 9-4.

Allison Laycob, Brier-Rosenfield and Stephanie Tsay all won in straight sets for Cornell.

The Big Red is done with team competition for the year and will next send team members to the individual national championships at the University of Pennsylvania on Feb. 28 through March 2.
