ITHACA, N.Y.- A bleak morning gave way to a victorious afternoon for the Red, split back to back games this Saturday, making their record 2-3. In the morning game, first place Harvard showed why they are still undefeated, sweeping the Red 9-0 to improve to 4-0. Later, Cornell surged past Colgate, handing their opponents a shutout this time.
The dominant Harvard team, who are currently tied for first place in the Ivy League, showed their mettle, not allowing the Red to record a set win in any one of the nine flights. Mairin Barnes, Brooke Stetson, and the rest of the Red couldn't find a way to stop the Crimson powerhouse, and headed into the afternoon with a loss under their belts. Margot Dickinson came closest with a 9-5 second set against Harvard's Allison fast, but to no avail.
But it seemed like a tale of two meets, as Cornell brought their A-game to visiting Colgate later in the afternoon. This time the shoe was on the other foot, and the Big Red dispatched their opponents handily, themselves not surrendering a single set win to Colgate. Allison Laycob and Margot Dickinson cruised to perfect 9-0, 9-0, 9-0 victories, with most of the other Cornell players not far behind.
After this marathon of a day, the Big Red get an early winter break, but will be back to take on Amherst at home on January 20.
