ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's squash team dropped its 2005-06 season opener to Penn 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Belkin International Squash Courts. The Big Red dropped every game to a more experienced Penn squad to fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Quakers improved to 1-0.
Starting freshmen at each of the top two slots on the ladder, head coach Julee Devoy's team battled throughout the match. Maxi Prinsen, in her first collegiate match at No. 1, fall to Radhika Ahluwalia, last year's 23rd-ranked player. Prinsen dropped game one 9-7 before Ahluwalia settled in for 9-1, 9-3 triumphs to complete the sweep. Only Cory Warfield at No. 3 took more than four points in any other match, falling to Tara Chawla by scores of 9-7, 9-2, 9-2.
The Big Red will play host to Princeton on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Belkin Squash Courts.
