ITHACA, N.Y. - The women's squash team fell to 0-2 on the young season, falling to national powerhouse Princeton 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Belkin International Squash Courts. Freshman Alex Cornett Cory Warfield (Glencoe, Md.) each took the first game of their matches at No. 2 and 3, respectively, but were unable to close it out.
Cornett opened her match with a 9-5 win, but fell in straight games to Princeton junior Marilla Hiltz, 9-0, 9-3, 9-5 at No. 2. At No. 3, Warfield jumped out to the early lead on the strength of a 9-2 victory in game one, but Tigers' sophomore Lena Neufeld stormed back with 9-1, 9-2, 9-1 wins to take the match.
Freshman Maxi Prinsen (Philadelphia, Pa.) held her own at No. 1. Despite being swept, the rookie put up a fight in a 9-6, 9-4, 9-5 loss. The bottom of Princeton's lineup proved to be too much for the Big Red as the No. 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 players each posted 9-0 scores in two of the three games to win all five matches.
Cornell will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3 with a pair of matches against Harvard and Bates in Cambridge, Mass. The match with Harvard will begin at 11 a.m., and the Bates contest gets under way at 3 p.m.
