Cambridge, Mass. -- Ninth-ranked Cornell won 9-0 today against sixteenth-ranked Middlebury in the first round of the Howe Cup. The Cornell Women's Squash team is ranked at the top of the Kurtz Cup B Division. The win moved the team to the semifinals where they will face Colby.
The Red's 9-0 sweep was it's second in a row, as they previously defeated William Smith in Ithaca on February 4th, 2006. In the number one position, Maxi Prinsen only allowed four games to her Middlebury opponent Hannah Baker. Playing in the number nine spot, Megan McCarthy allowed a measly three games, and number four Mairin Barnes allowed five games in her match.
The Red will be back in action tomorrow when they face thirteenth-ranked Colby. Colby advanced after defeating Connecticut this afternoon. The match is set to take place at 9 a.m. at Harvard University's Barnaby Squash Courts.
