Cornell Squash Defeats Bowdoin College in its First Game of the Yale Round Robin

NEW HAVEN, CT. - The Cornell women's squash team won its first matchup in the Yale Round Robin yesterday, beating Bowdoin by a score of 8-1. Seven of the nine Big Red players won their matches in straight sets, 3-0. Freshman Jen Chu needed one more set to finish off her opponent, Biz Gillespie (Bowdoin), winning 3-1 with set scores of 7, (6), 1, and 3. Junior Anna Beavis won the first set of her match against Susie Martin (Bowdoin), and ended up winning by default when Martin retired after the second set.

Senior Margot Dickson won her match with set scores of 0, 5, and 6. She was joined by junior Mairin Barnes, who won her match through set scores of 3, 0, and 1. Sophomores Maxi Prinsen and Alex Cornett won their matches with scores of 2, 0, 4 and 4, 2, 6, respectively. Freshman Rachel Wagner was joined by her classmates Liza Stokes and Annie Ritter, as they won their games with scores of 6, 2, 1; 6, 1, 3; and 0, 1, 3 respectively.

The Big Red continue their play in the Round Robin today, when they face Bates College at 10 a.m. and Colby College at 2 p.m. today.
