ITHACA, NY -- Coming off an encouraging weekend in which the women's squash team won three of its four matches, the Big Red could not match its previous success this afternoon, falling to Dartmouth 8-1.
The only win of the afternoon was recorded by Liza Stokes in the fourth singles slot. After splitting the first two sets, Stokes took the third set in a tie breaker 10-8 before putting away her opponent with a 9-5 triumph.
While five of the nine contests were decided in straight sets, the other four where tightly contested. Playing out of the second singles slot, Alex Cornett kept battling back against her opponent Christie Alexander. After losing the first set, she dominated the second set 9-3. Falling behind again in the third set, she again tied the match by narrowly escaping the fourth set with a 9-7 win. Unfortunately the fifth and decisive set went to Alexander and she took the match 3-2.
Annie Ritter and Jen Chu all went to a fourth sets before losing their matches. Playing out of the third and seventh slots, respectively, Ritter and Chu both took the first set before dropping three consecutive sets to lose 3-1.
