ITHACA, N.Y. -- Bouncing back from an 8-1 loss to Dartmouth last weekend, the women's squash team took commanding victories over both Tufts and Williams, claiming the 7-0 victory against Tufts before taking down William Smith 9-0. In the process, the Big Red won all 17 of its matches, including16 in straight sets.
In the first match of the day, Cornell triumphed over Tufts in dominating fashion. No Big Red competitor allowed more than four games to her opponent in any set, as each win came in straight sets. In fact, Maxi Prinsen yielded only one game as she won her match at first singles, 9-0, 9-1, 9-0. Not to be outdone, Mairin Barnes and Margot Dixon give up only one game in their straight set victories out of the fourth and fifth singles slots, respectively. Jamie Singer did not even allow that to her opponent, sweeping the three sets, 9-0, 9-0, 9-0, playing at seventh singles.
Later that afternoon, Cornell battled William Smith, sending out 10 competitors who all claimed victory, nine of them in straight sets. Maxi Prinsen again led the way for the Big Red out of the first singles slot, allowing a team-low three games to her opponent in a 9-0, 9-1, 9-2, straight sets win. Annie Ritter matched that feat in the fourth singles slot, as she took her match 9-1, 9-0, 9-2. Not far behind Ritter and Prinsen was Mairin Barnes, playing at fifth singles. She swept her first set 9-0, before finishing off the match with identical 9-2 wins in the second and third sets.
The Big Red will return to action tomorrow morning as they host Brown at 10 a.m.
