Women's Squash Beats Bates College 6-3 in its Bracket Final

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Cornell women's squash team finished their stellar performance at the NISRA Championships with a 6-3 win over Bates College. Going 3-0 in their B Division bracket, the Big Red claims 9th place at the national championship.

The Big Red was anchored by solid wins at the No. 2 through No. 5 spots to take the game. The freshman class played a big role in the victory, going 3-for-4 in their matches. Classmates Alex Cornett, Liza Stokes and Jen Chu both swept their matches, winning 3-0.

Junior Mairin Barnes needed an extra set to decide her match at the No. 5 spot, winning 3-1 with sets of 9-5 8-10 9-2 9-6. Senior Margot Dickson and freshman Rachel Wagner played tough matches that needed all 5 sets, but they both came out on the winning end.

The Big Red will return to action on March 1st for the individual squash championships in Philadelphia.
