BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest at Binghamton on Saturday night. Binghamton, which entered the game ranked eighth in the Northeast Region in the latest NSCAA poll, improved to 7-2 on the season, while Cornell, ranked 10th in the region in the same poll, fell to 5-3 on the year.

Cornell controlled the flow of the match early, but it was Binghamton that had the better of the chances early in the match. Midway through the first half, the Bearcats' Justin Lewkow played a ball into the penalty area for Cameron Keith, who fired a shot at the far post that was stopped by Cornell goalkeeper Luca Cerretani, who smothered the rebound at the back post. Less than a minute later, though, it was the same duo connecting again, this time with Keith faking out a Cornell defender, turning and placing a shot to the far post, just out of Cerretani's reach.

Cornell had a chance for the equalizer with just over 10 minutes to play before the half, stringing together several close passes in the Binghamton penalty area. Junior Dana Flanders found himself open at the penalty spot heading toward the sideline with the ball with no defense around, but his attempt to bring the ball back to the near post went wide of the goal frame.

Late in the second half, the Bearcats added an insurance tally as Keith struck for his second goal of the game. Liam Carson played a ball to Keith, who beat a defender and dribbled in alone on Cerretani, placing a shot to the far post. Two minutes later, they added the third goal of the game. Cornell, pushing ahead, got caught in a 3-on-1 rush, with Keith scoring his third goal of the night.

Cornell opens Ivy League play on Saturday, Oct. 6, with a 4 p.m. contest against Harvard, currently ranked 11th in the nation, at Berman Field.
