ITHACA, N.Y. -- Penn scored four goals in the second half to break open a 2-0 contest, defeating the Cornell women's soccer team by a 6-0 margin on Saturday night at Berman Field in Ithaca. The loss sends Cornell to 1-7-1 on the year, while Penn improves to 6-3-1 overall.
The Quakers took a 2-0 lead into the half off a pair of similar shots, as Penn's first goal came off a shot by Molly Weir that caromed off the goal post and bounced into the goal. The Quakers' second goal came off a through-ball played into Allyson Gordon, who slipped a low shot to the far post and into the side netting.
In the second half, Penn's Sarah Friedman fired a high shot over Cornell goalkeeper
Megan Bartlett from 25 yards out just six minutes after the break. Ursula Lopez-Palm added a finish from 12 yards out after a pair of nice passes from her left side in the 66th minute to make the score 4-0. Mara Fintzi and Weir added a pair of goals in the closing minutes to provide the final margin.
Bartlett stopped four shots while surrendering four goals in 72:28.
Jodi Palmer came on in relief and made on stop while allowing a pair of goals in the final 17:32.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Harvard for a 11:30 a.m. contest in Cambridge, Mass.
