Box Score
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sophomore goalkeeper
Scott Brody made three spectacular saves to keep the Cornell men's soccer team within striking distance, but the Big Red fell to Binghamton, 1-0, on Friday night at Berman Field. Cornell falls to 1-6 on the year, while the Bearcats improve to 5-1-3.
Brody picked up a point-blank save in the first half as the two teams battled through a scoreless first 45 minutes. Binghamton goalkeeper Jason Stenta was just as sharp, also picking up one save on a shot to keep the Big Red off the scoreboard.
In the second half, the Bearcats got on the board in the 64th minute. A cross came in from Brody's right, and the goalkeeper went out to punch the ball away in traffic, but the ball caromed off the head of a Big Red defender and onto the path of Binghamton's Cameron Keith, who volleyed home the ball into the open net for what would be the only score of the game.
Shortly after the Bearcats took the lead, Brody came up huge on a pair of shots from Keith. On a breakaway, Brody made one reaction stop from six yards out, with the rebound coming right back to Keith, who settled and fired again, only to be turned away yet again by Brody.
Cornell played evenly with the Bearcats throughout the match, matching Binghamton's 10 shots with 10 of their own. Cornell also had four corner kicks to Binghamton's two, but could not solve Stenta, who made two saves for the shutout.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday, playing host to Penn in the Big Red's Ivy League opener at 4:30 p.m. at Berman Field.
