ITHACA, N.Y.—In its first match of the new year, the Big Red women's polo team continued its perfect season with a 15-13 win over Virginia a the Oxley Equestrian Center. Cornell moves to 15-0 for the year.
The Big Red scored first, but watched Virginia grab a 3-1 lead. Cornell bounced back to end the first chukker up, 4-3. Virginia turned the tide in the second to tie the match at seven after the first half.
The Big Red had many chances in the second half to take the lead, but could not find the goal. Cornell switched gears midway through the third to take a three-goal lead, but Virginia fought back to come within a goal with only the fourth left to play. The Big Red pulled out to a three-goal lead again in the fourth, but the Cavaliers once again played their way back into the game. Cornell scored the final goal of the match to bring home the victory.
Cornell will play at Skidmore on Feb. 6 for a 7:30 p.m. match.
