ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman goalkeeper Rick Pflasterer made five first half saves, but No. 18 Brown rode a second half goal by Thomas McNamara to a 1-0 victory on Saturday evening at Berman Field. The Big Red had several dangerous scoring chances throughout the match, but could get the go-ahead or equalizing goal in falling to 5-54 (0-2-2 Ivy), while the Bears are 8-1-5 (3-1-0 Ivy) after the win.

McNamara ran through a deflected cross by Sean Rosa and blasted a shot from right out in front of the goal mouth for the only score of the day in the 72nd minute. Cornell would have a pair of dangerous scoring opportunities late, including just under a minute after Brown's goal when Scott Caldwell teed up a shot that went high in front of an empty net.

Brown held a narrow 10-7 advantage in shots and had seven corners to Cornell's four, including a 5-1 margin in the second half. The cleanly-played game featured just 20 fouls. Bears' goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand made two saves to pick up the shutout.
