ITHACA, N.Y. -- A goal with five and a half minutes remaining in the game was the only scoring of the match as the Cornell women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Brown on Sunday afternoon at Berman Field. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Bartlett stopped two shots in taking the loss for the Big Red.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half and appeared to be heading toward overtime until the late goal from Brown's Sylvia Stone broke the deadlock. The Bears' Gina Walker took a shot from the right side of the goal that was blocked by a Cornell defender, but the rebound came off to Stone. Stone struck a low shot that went past the outstretched arm of Bartlett in and into the lower left corner of the goal.

Brown held an 11-4 advantage in shots on the match. The goalkeeper combination of Brenna Hogue and Steffi Yellin both posted a save in one half of work, with Yellin collecting the victory.

Sunday's match marked the final home game for Cornell's four seniors. Eva Dixon, Rebecca Flewelling, Kala Neilson and Elizabeth Scully were honored for their contributions to the program in a pregame ceremony.

Cornell returns to action on Sat., Oct. 31, when it takes on Princeton in a 4 p.m. game in Princeton, N.J.
