PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton's Alexandra Valerio scored the game-winning goal with 24 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Cornell women's soccer team a heartbreaking 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon in Princeton, N.J.

Cornell was just seconds away from its second draw of the season when Valerio banked a shot off the goalpost and into the net. The one-goal defeat marked the fifth time the Big Red lost by one goal in six Ivy League defeats this season.

The Big Red played shorthanded for most of the match following the sending-off of senior midfielder Kala Neilson in the 26th minute. The Big Red defense held up despite being out-shot, 20-4, for the match. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Bartlett stopped eight shots in taking the loss for the Big Red.

For Princeton, Alyssa Pont picked up one save in taking the victory.

Cornell closes out the 2009 season next Saturday when it faces Dartmouth in a 6:30 p.m. contest in Hanover, N.H.
