Sidra Bonner scored for the second straight game, but that wasn't enough as the Cornell women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 contest at Lehigh on Friday night in Bethlehem, Pa. Cornell falls to 0-2-1 on the year, while Lehigh improves to 3-1-1 on the season.
After Lehigh's Leah Kulp put the Mountain Hawks ahead in the 19th minute off a short corner kick, the Big Red knotted the score at one on a corner kick of their own in the 32nd minute. Freshman
Xandra Hompe played a corner kick to the far post, where it found the head of Bonner, who perfectly nodded the ball home for the equalizer.
Lehigh would take the lead before the half, as Glynn Fitzer scored in the 39th minute, taking a pass and dribbling around Cornell goalkeeper
Kelly Murphy for what would turn out to be the game-winning goal. The Mountain Hawks added to the lead in the 54th minute with a Lena Cannon goal off a corner kick, and again struck for an insurance goal by Isabelle Li in the 78th minute to cap off the scoring.
Murphy made six saves for the loss for the Big Red, while Lehigh goalkeeper Lauren Mains stopped four shots. The Mountain Hawks held a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 9-3 margin in corner kicks.
Cornell returns to action on Sunday, taking on Manhattan in a 1 p.m. contest at Berman Field. The women's game kicks off a doubleheader with the Cornell men, who will play St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m.
