PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For the second-straight game, the Big Red field hockey team needed overtime to earn the win, as they defeated Penn this evening, 3-2, on Franklin Field. Catie De Stio gave Cornell the early two-goal lead and then scored 22 seconds into the extra session to send the Big Red to its first Ivy League win of the season.

De Stio, who scored her three goals on just five shots, tallied the game-winner on a breakaway, as she slipped the ball between Quaker goalie Kieran Sweeney's legs.

Cornell held the slim edge in shots (11-10) and penalty corners (3-2).

After making just one save in her first three appearances of the season, senior Mel Jue stopped three shots in the first half en route to a five-save performance.

Cornell got off to a quick start when De Stio scored at the 9:59 mark. The goal was set up by Kate Thompson, whose initial shot was saved before De Stio collected the rebound and found the back of the net.

De Stio gave the Big Red a 2-0 lead early in the second half, scoring less than five minutes into the action.

Penn responded with a goal exactly five minutes later when Sarah Hasson scored from close range to get the Quakers on the board, making it a 2-1 game.

With time winding down in the contest, Penn was awarded a penalty corner and Katie Rose capitalized, tying the game, 2-2, off a pass from Sarah Warner at 67:19.

Cornell (5-0) is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 20, as it takes on Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa., at 1 p.m.
