ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest to visiting Binghamton on Wednesday night at Berman Field, evening the Big Red's record at 3-3-1 on the season. The Bearcats improved to 4-3 on the year with the victory.
For the first time this season, the Big Red was kept off the scoreboard as Binghamton goalkeeper Jason Stenta made seven saves for the victory. Cornell goalkeeper
Scott Brody stopped three shots in taking the loss for the Big Red.
Binghamton took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, capitalizing on a free kick 35 yards from the Cornell goal. The Bearcats' Kyle Kucharski played a ball into the penalty area, where it caromed off a Cornell defender and into the Big Red goal. Despite allowing the early goal, the Big Red kept the pressure on, out-shooting the Bearcats by a 10-5 margin in the first half. That pressure nearly paid off as the Big Red earned a penalty kick in the 18th minute, but
Scott Caldwell's attempt to the left side of the goal was stopped by Stenta's diving attempt.
The Bearcats got a second goal in the 71st minute as Matt Robertson threw the ball in to Andy Tiedt about 15 yards out from goal. Tiedt brought the ball down and volleyed a rocket past Brody and into the back of the net.
Cornell held a 14-8 advantage in shots for the match, with both teams recording five corner kicks.
The Big Red returns to action on Sunday, taking on Long Island in a 1 p.m. match at Berman Field.
