Women's Soccer Falls To Columbia In Ivy Opener

ITHACA, N.Y. -- A goal in the 15th minute was the only scoring of the match as the Cornell women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Columbia on Friday night at Berman Field in the Ivy League opener for both teams.

Columbia's Ashlin Yahr scored the game's only goal at the 14:34 mark of the match, taking a cross from Marissa Schultz and knocking the ball into the far post past Cornell goalkeeper Kelly Murphy for the eventual game-winner.

Columbia (4-3-1, 1-0 Ivy League) held a 14-8 advantage in shots for the match, including a 7-3 advantage in the first half. Murphy stopped four shots in taking the loss, while Columbia goalkeeper Lillian Klein stopped three Cornell shots for the shutout victory. Cornell (1-6-1, 0-1 Ivy League) held a slim 6-5 advantage in corner kicks, with both teams being whistled for 13 fouls.

The Big Red returns to action on Sunday, taking on Bucknell in a 3 p.m. match at Berman Field. Sunday's game will be the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Big Red.
