EASTON, Pa. -- A free kick two minutes into overtime was converted for the only goal of the game as the Cornell men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest at Lafayette on Tuesday evening in Easton, Pa. The Big Red loses its final non-conference contest of the season and slips to 4-5-4 on the year.
With the two teams deadlocked after regulation, the game went into overtime, where a foul on the Big Red gave the Leopards a free kick near the Cornell goal. Lafayette's Sean Peckham played the ball into the penalty area where Jeff McLaughlin directed the ball into the back of the Cornell goal.
The evenly matched game saw Cornell take five shots, with two of those being saved by Lafayette goalkeeper Graham Heydt. The Leopards fired six shots toward the Cornell goal, but none was on the goal frame as
Rick Pflasterer was tagged with the loss without making a save.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Providence, R.I., for a 7 p.m. contest against nationally ranked Brown.
