Big Plays Lift Navy Past Cornell In Sprint Football

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Elliott Corey threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Big Red defense limited Navy to 44 rushing yards on 34 attempts, but the big play hurt Cornell all night as the Midshipmen scored a 31-12 win on Friday evening at Schoellkopf Field. Navy improved to 5-1 (3-1 CSFL), while the Big Red fell to 4-2 (2-2 CSFL).

Corey threw touchdown passes of 8 and 40 yards in the fourth quarter to Spenser Grunenfelder, who caught seven passes for exactly 100 yards. Colin Famularo had 95 yards on the ground on 18 carries, and Corey finished the day 17-of-39 passing for 154 yards. He was intercepted once. Defensively, Clayton Hemminger was a load to block, recording 16 tackles, including four for a loss and a half sack, while Kevin Schmidt posted eight tackles with 4.0 stops behind the line of scrimmage and 1.5 sacks.

Navy scored on pass plays of 21, 44, 11 and 5 yards, with the last coming on a short field after a Big Red turnover. Tyler Terronez ended the day 25-of-44 passing for 331 yards and four scores. Four different receivers caught touchdown passes, with Drew Presnell leading the way with seven catches for 76 yards and a score. Jojo Catrini, Erik Erlandson and Denzel Reina also found the end zone as 11 different receivers caught passes.
