CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --
Chase Aaronson's goal with 1:46 to play in regulation lifted the Cornell men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Ohiri Field in Cambridge, Mass. The Big Red moved to 3-3-4 on the year and 0-1-1 in Ivy League play while Harvard moved to 4-3-4 on the year and 1-0-1 in league action.
One week after a late goal sent the Big Red to a loss in its Ivy League opener, the Big Red was this time on the receiving end of a fortunate bounce, as Aaronson's goal came off a deflected pass, with the junior putting a shot into the net from just outside the penalty area. The goal negated the lead taken by Harvard when Ben Tsuda put back a rebound off his own shot for the game's first goal in the 62nd minute.
Rick Pflasterer made four saves in the contest for the Big Red, while Austin Harms stopped three shots for the Crimson. Cornell held a decisive 6-1 edge in corner kicks on the day, though being out-shot by a 16-12 margin.
Cornell takes a brief break from Ivy League play on Tuesday when the Big Red travels to Colgate for a 7 p.m. contest in Hamilton, N.Y. Cornell returns home to face Yale on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at Berman Field.
