CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Cornell sophomore
Nick Sachvie won the U.S. Junior Open, contested last week on the Harvard campus in Cambridge, Mass. Sachvie, representing his native Canada in the competition, defeated Mexico's Miled Zarazua in straight sets to claim first place in the tournament.
The U.S. Junior Open Squash Championships posted a record field of nearly 650 players representing 21 countries, making it the largest individual junior squash tournament in the world. Sachvie won the championship match by scores of 11-7, 11-3 and 11-5.
Sachvie is 2-2 on the year, helping the Cornell men to a 3-1 mark through the end of the fall semester. The Big Red returns to action on Jan. 15, taking on Yale and Western Ontario in a pair of matches at the Belkin International Squash Courts in Ithaca.
