LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Cornell women's polo team dropped its first contest of the 2009-10 season as Kentucky topped the Big Red 14-12 on Saturday evening. Cornell fell to 12-1 and Kentucky picked up its first-ever win over the Wildcats after winning the first four meetings between the teams.

The arena UK plays in is 60 feet wider and 50 feet longer than Cornell's with a deeper surface. It was interesting to see how the Big Red adjusted. The game started off well as the Big Red jumped to a 2-0 lead. Kentucky fought back to end the first ahead 4-2. Cornell was learning on the fly though and would fight back in the second chukker to tie the game at 7-7 headed into the half. The Wildcats came out on fire in the third and built a 6-goal lead at 13-7 before Cornell would close on a two-goal run to get back within 13-9 after three. Cornell wasn't done yet though. The visitors closed to within 13-12 with 1:18 left in the game after several close calls at tying the game, Cornell fell short to lose its first match of the year.

Lizzie Wisner led the Big Red with seven goals, Erin Bold had four and Jess Cross scored once.
