Rick Pflasterer made five saves as the Cornell men's soccer team opened its 2010 season with a 1-0 loss at Long Island on Saturday afternoon. Long Island improved to 2-0 on the young season with Cornell falling in its opener.
Long Island's Juan Lanza scored the game's only goal in the 57th minute, knocking home a cross from teammate Steve Jakubowski to give the Blackbirds the lead.
For Long Island, John Connolly made one save in the first half, while Adam Janssen got the win by stopping a pair of shots in the second half.
Cornell returns to action on Monday night when it makes its 2010 home debut against Hartwick in a 7 p.m. contest at Berman Field.
