Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at Princeton

Box Score PRINCETON, N.J. – The Big Red women's soccer team was fortunate when consecutive Princeton shots rang off the crossbar in the first half of Sunday's game, but the third try proved to be the charm for the Tigers.

Gabriella Guzman scored in the 24th minute after Jen Hoy and Melissa Downey hit the woodwork in quick succession, leading the Tigers to a 1-0 victory at Plummer Field.

Cornell (2-12-1, 0-5-1 Ivy League) attempted just three shots on the day – all of them from freshman forward Kerry Schubert – and only one was on target before being stopped by Princeton keeper Kristin Watson. Princeton (6-9-1, 2-4) fired 21 shots toward goal, forcing Big Red keeper Kelly Murphy to make six saves.

The game was played a day after it was originally scheduled because of a storm that put the Tigers' normal home of Myslik Field under a few inches of snow. That forced a venue change, also switching the playing surface from grass to artificial turf.

The Big Red wraps up the season on the road on Saturday at Dartmouth.
