THE MATCHUP – Cornell (19-4) will continue Ivy League play at home this weekend. The Big Red will face Brown (13-4) on Saturday, April 9, at 2:00 p.m., before taking on Yale (9-8) on Saturday April 10, at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Reis Tennis Center.

THE SERIES VS. BROWN – Although the Ivy League did not begin until 1956, the Big Red has been competing against the Bears since 1937. Cornell beat Brown, 6-3, in that first meeting, but the Bears lead the series 31-19. Brown has won seven of the past ten matches in Ivy play, but the Big Red is making its comeback, taking 5-2 wins in both 2009 and 2010.

SCOUTING THE BEARS – Brown currently holds a 0-2 record in the Ivy League after the first weekend of Ancient Eight competition. Last weekend the Bears fell to both Princeton and Penn, 4-3. Against the Tigers, Brown took the doubles point, but only two wins in the No. 2 and No. 6 singles spots. Versus the Quakers, the Bears again took the doubles point but fell short with only two wins in singles, in the No. 4 and No. 6 matches.

A WIN OVER BROWN WOULD -- Keep the Big Red unbeaten in Ivy League play and improve the squad to 3-0 in the conference and 20-4 on the season. It would keep the Big Red undefeated at home this season, giving it a 10-0 record at the Reis Tennis Center. It would also give the seniors a 3-1 record against the Bears in their careers.

LAST TIME VS. THE BEARS– Last season, the Big Red defeated Brown, 5-2, in Providence, R.I. Cornell won the doubles point and earned victories at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6.

THE SERIES VS. YALE – Cornell and Yale first met in 1907 and the Bulldogs lead the series 56-10-2. The Big Red has only defeated the Bulldogs once in the past five seasons of Ivy play, taking a 6-1 win in 2009.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS – The Bulldogs came out of the first weekend of Ivy play 1-1 in the league, taking down Penn, 5-2, and losing to Princeton, 4-3. Versus the Quakers, Yale swept the doubles point and earned wins in all but the No. 1 and No. 5 singles matches. Against the Tigers, the Bulldogs swept the doubles point again, but fell short in their singles matches, only notching wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 spot.

LAST TIME VS. THE BULLDOGS– In their last meeting, Cornell fell to Yale, 5-2. The Big Red took the doubles point but couldn't match the Bulldogs in singles. Yale took victories in each of the singles matches, except for at the No. 5 spot.

COACH BRESKY'S TAKE ON THE WEEKEND: The head coach emphasizes the tough level of competition in this year's Ivy matches thus far, “There were eight Ivy League matches last weekend and five ended up 4-3,” he commented. With such evenly matched teams, Bresky says that taking the doubles point will be key in both matchups this weekend, “It would be a great momentum builder to start with a 1-0 lead.” Bresky also hopes that being home after six matches on the road will give the Big Red an advantage over the Ancient Eight opponents.

LAST TIME OUT FOR CORNELL – Last weekend, the Big Red defeated both Harvard (1-1) and Dartmouth (1-1) on the road. Against Harvard, Cornell lost the doubles point and the No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches but was able to earn the win. In the Dartmouth match, the Big Red was able to claim the victory with the doubles point and three wins in the singles matches.

UP NEXT – In its next weekend of action, Cornell will travel to face Penn on Friday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m., before returning home for its match vs. Ithaca College at the Reis Tennis Center on Sunday, April 17 at 9:00 a.m.
