PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jordan Reisner ran for 193 yards and two touchdowns as Brown held on for a 21-14 win over Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Brown Stadium. The Bears improved to 3-3 (1-2 Ivy), while the Big Red slipped to 3-3 (1-2 Ivy).

The Bears offense piled up 452 yards of offense and controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, giving up zero rushing yards on 17 carries and sacking Big Red quarterback Jeff Mathews four times.

Mathews posted his 10th career 300-yard passing day, completing 31-of-58 passes for 357 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted three times. He entered the game with just three picks in 185 passing attempts. He did throw one touchdown, a late 4-yard pass to Kurt Ondash. The senior receiver had 12 catches for 147 yards and the score.

Trailing 21-7 in the fourth, Mathews led the Big Red on a 60-yard touchdown drive, finding Ondash on a fourth-and-goal from the 4 on a slant pattern on Cornell's seventh play of the drive inside the 6. After the on-sides kick went out of bounds, the Bears took over with 2:54 left. After a run for no gain, Andrew Nelson sacked Brendan Donnelly for a 12-yard loss. A short run on third down forced a punt, but the clocked ticked under 80 seconds before the visitors got the ball back.

Needing to go 80 yards for the tying touchdown, Mathews hit Gellatly for a 12-yard gain on a crossing pattern. His next three passes, two with pressure in his face, fell incomplete. His fourth-and-10 effort to keep the game alive was intercepted to end the comeback and the game.

The first half was a controlled by two offenses that moved the ball but couldn't score and two defenses that bended but never broke. The only score of the first half was when Brown quarterback Patrick Donnelly broke containment and scampered 26 yards untouched midway through the first quarter. Brown piled up 261 yards and Cornell had 157 by the break, but neither was able to threaten the goal line in the half.

A turnover led to Cornell's first score, as freshman Mike Tate forced a fumble and Brett Buehler recovered, returning it 32 yards to the Brown 14. It took five plays, including a pass interference on a third-and-goal play, but freshman Luke Hagy eventually cashed in with a 20yard run to knot the score at 7-7 after John Wells' extra-point kick.

The Bears responded with a touchdown of its own, needing just five plays to go 77 yards. Reisner went 27 yards for the touchdown, and six minutes into the second half both offenses had cashed in.

Early in the fourth, Brown's offense went back to work. Three quick first downs brought he ball just over midfield and Reisner did the rest. The junior exploded through a hole and went 49 yards to the house for his second touchdown of the day to make it 21-7 with 12 minutes to play.

The Big Red moved the ball on its next possession, with Mathews going to Ondash for 24, 13 and 12 yards and Tasker for 15 more. With a first-and-goal from the 7, Mathews' pass into the end zone was intercepted by Steve Zambetti to end the potential scoring drive.
