WASHINGTON – Sophomore forward Jaclyn Katz scored her first collegiate goal, but the women's soccer team fell to Georgetown in a season-opening 6-1 loss on Saturday at North Kehoe Field.

Katz's goal came in the 53rd minute, just 40 seconds after the Hoyas scored their first goal of the second half. Katz converted on a header off a cross from the wing. It was one of three shots directed on goal by the Big Red. Junior Tori Christ made her first collegiate start in goal, making eight saves against an undefeated Georgetown squad already playing its fifth game of the season.

The Hoyas (5-0) used a pair of quick bursts to take a four-goal lead into the half. Goals in the seventh and eighth minutes gave the hosts a 2-0 advantage, then the lead doubled after strikes in the 33rd and 34th minutes.

Cornell (0-1) continues play at the D.C. Invitational with a Monday matinee against George Washington (1-2), which scored the only goal in a victory over Columbia on Saturday.
