Field Hockey Falls To Rutgers In Overtime

Box Score PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Big Red field hockey team built a 3-1 halftime lead, but couldn't hold off Rutgers as it surged back to take earn the 4-3 victory in overtime this afternoon in Piscataway, N.J. Cornell fell to 1-6 with the loss, while the Scarlet Knights improved to 5-5 on the season.

Hannah Balleza sandwiched a pair of goals around a tally by Sophie Wright and Katherine Stone added another score to help the Big Red go into halftime with the 3-1 lead, but a pair of Rutgers goals in under a minute midway through the second half knotted the game at 3-3. Christie Lonsky's second goal of the day gave the Scarlet Knights the victory in the 74th minute of action.

Rutgers held the 18-6 edge in shots and a substantial 9-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Carolyn Horner made nine saves in goal, while Sarah Stuby stopped just three shots to pick up the win.

The Big Red returns home to play a pair of games next weekend, taking on Ivy League foe Yale on Saturday, Sept. 29 at noon before facing Siena on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. Both games will take place on Marsha Dodson Field.
