Goepel Lifts Men's Soccer to 1-0 Win Over Dartmouth

11/9/2013 9:51:00 PM

Box Score HANOVER, N.H. – Conor Goepel's blast from the top of the box in the 46th minute helped men's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Stephen Reisert carried the ball 15 yards along the right side and faked out a defender at the top of the box before sliding the ball to the middle of the field. Benjamin Williams and Goepel both converged on the pass, but it was the junior that got the touch and put a low, hard shot past Dartmouth goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland to give the Big Red the lead.

Cornell recorded just two shots in the contest to Dartmouth's eight. The Big Red's one shot on goal was Goepel's game-winner; he now leads the team with three game-winning tallies this season.

Junior goalkeeper Zach Zagorski was stellar on the line once again for the Big Red, making five saves on the day, including three in the second half to help seal the victory.

With the win, Cornell improves to 7-5-4 on the season and 1-4-1 against Ivy League opponents. It is the third consecutive season that the Big Red will finish above .500.

The team will close out its 2013 season schedule with a 7 p.m. contest Saturday, Nov. 16 against Columbia on Berman Field and will honor its six seniors in a ceremony before kickoff.
