SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Cornell hit dramatic home runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings with two coming off the bat of junior Jenny Edwards to help Cornell to a Tuesday afternoon split at Syracuse. The Orange rallied in the seventh for a 10-9 win in game one, with the Big Red rallying twice for a 3-2 triumph over the home team in game two. Both squads are now 21-27 on the year.

Edwards broke up a no-hitter in game two with a solo shot in the sixth, then after senior Kristen Towne blasted a home run of her own in the seventh to again tie the game, Edwards hit her second of the day that proved to be the game winner. They were her sixth and seventh home runs of the season.

Junior Alyson Onyon picked up her 15th win of the season with yet another complete game, scattering six hits and allowing just two runs while striking out eight.

Syracuse scored a run in the fourth inning to take the lead, and after Edwards hit her first, scored again to put the Orange up 2-1. Facing its final three outs from being swept, Towne delivered in her final road game, hitting a leadoff homer, her second of the year and the 20th of her career, to again knot the score.

The Orange threatened to walk off in the second game like it did in the first, getting the leadoff runner on and advancing her after a passed ball. Onyon did the rest herself for the Big Red, striking out the side and stranding the runner at second to set up Edwards' heroics.

Cornell couldn't hold on to the lead in game one despite a monster day at the plate by freshman Meg Parker. The rookie was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBI. Edwards was 2-for-3, Michiko McGivney had a pair of doubles and two RBI and both Christina Villalon and Lauren Bucolo also had two hits apiece.

With Syracuse clinging to a 1-0 lead after two innings, the Big Red exploded for five runs in the third, highlighted by a three-run homer by Parker. McGivney added a two-run double in the inning.

Syracuse answered right back, surpassing the Big Red with a six-spot in the bottom half of the inning. But in true slugfest fashion, Cornell plated five in the fourth and it was off to the races. Parker hit a two-run double and both senior Erin Belles and junior Christina Villalon earned RBI's on sacrifice flies.

The Orange chipped away with a run in the fourth as Cornell's bats went silent over the final three innings. Syracuse led off the seventh with a solo home run. Two batters later, a hit batter and a walk-off triple ended the game.

Cornell closes out the 2013 campaign tomorrow when it meets Binghamton in a doubleheader at Niemand*Robison Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
