Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – Thanks to an early goal by
Patrick Slogic and clutch saves by goalkeeper
Kurtis Teskoski in the last 30 minutes men's soccer was able to hang on to defeat Buffalo 1-0 and improve to 6-0-2, while also extending its non-conference regular season unbeaten streak to 25 games.
In the 18th minute Slogic pulled up into the box to set up for a deep
Devin Morgan throw. Morgan placed the ball perfectly, allowing Slogic to use his head to flick it past Bulls goalkeeper Waleed Cassis for the Big Red's game winner.
Making only the second start of his career Teskoski weathered the storm as the Bulls maintained consistent offensive pressure in taking 15 shots, including eight in the second half.
In the 62nd minute, Kristian Lee-Him snuck behind the Cornell defense and came in one-on-one against Teskoski. The Big Red keeper came off the line to challenge the Bulls forward and managed to force Lee-Him to send the shot over the crossbar and preserve Cornell's 1-0 lead.
Buffalo's Russell Cicerone had two scoring opportunities in the last 10 minutes of the contest, the more notable of which came in the 89th minute after a defensive miscue by Slogic resulted in a Bulls free kick from 25 yards out. Cicerone's kick cleared the wall and was headed from the top right corner before Teskoski punched the ball over the crossbar for his second save of the game.
The Big Red was peppered with shots on the ensuing corner, but successfully blocked and clear all the Bulls attempts as the clock ticked down to hold on to its lead and secure the victory.
The goal is Slogic's second of the season; the other was a header in Cornell's win against Hartwick. Teskoski recorded two saves to earn his first win in goal for the Big Red.
Cornell next travels to Niagara University for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 29.
