Box Score Oneonta, N.Y. – The Big Red opened the 2013 with a tie against the University of Detroit Mercy in the second game of Hartwick's Mayor's Cup Friday night.
Despite outshooting the Titans 18-7 and creating quality scoring chances late – including a
Stephen Reisert header just outside the six yard line in the 110th minute - Cornell was unable to net the game winner.
The Big Red struck first in the 17th minute when junior forward
Devin Morgan pushed a crossing pass on the ground past Titan goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher for his first career goal. Morgan joined the team his sophomore year as a walk on and only saw action in six games in 2012, recording one shot. Reisert and fellow senior
Jake Rinow were credited with the assists.
UDM netted the equalizer in the 37th minute, when Trevor Flynn headed service from a free kick past Big Red keeper
Zach Zagorski, who started his second career game and recorded two saves against the Titans. In 2012, he played just over 13 minutes in two appearances.
Cornell returns to Oneonta on Sunday to face Hartwick at 3 p.m.
