Top-Ranked Trinity Staves Off Men's Squash, 6-3

1/13/2014 8:35:00 PM

HARTFORD, Conn. — The men's squash team won two matches in the top third of the order, but ultimately came up short Monday in a 6-3 loss to No. 1 Trinity at Kellner Squash Center.

Senior Bryan Keating and junior Aditya Jagtap got eighth-ranked Cornell (4-2) on the board with victories in the middle rotation. Keating used a 13-11 victory in the third game to defeat Affeeq Ismail in the No. 5 match, and Jagtap held off Karan Malik in four games at the No. 2 spot.

That left the Big Red alive heading into the final rotation, though trailing 4-2. The Bantams were able to clinch the match despite a three-game victory from Big Red senior Nick Sachvie at the No. 1 position against Miled Zarazua. Sachvie and Jagtap both won all three of their matches over the weekend against Brown, Yale and Trinity.

Cornell concludes its stretch of four straight road matches Saturday at No. 4 St. Lawrence, then returns to the friendly confines of Belkin International Squash Courts for four matches Jan. 31 through Feb. 2.
