ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell University Department of Athletics and Physical Education, in conjunction with SIDEARM Sports, unveiled a newly redesigned www.CornellBigRed.com website this morning.

Shades of Cornell red with grey trim give the site a clean, sophisticated look. Improved integration of social media and multimedia, striking photography and intuitive and redundant navigation will be staples of the newly redesigned website.

The main page also features a rotating carousel of eight top stories, with a floating social media bar that features quick links to the department's Facebook, Twitter, YouTube pages and more. Story headlines feature quick links to rosters, schedules, coaches and archives of each individual sport, as well as a box for upcoming games. A sticky bar at the top of the page allows users to always find navigation to any of the main areas on the website, including the front page. Simpler dropdown navigation allows users to more easily find the areas on the site they want to visit.

A features section that includes a link to Big Red Bios and an interactive events calendar are also included on the front page, as are carousels for video and photo galleries.  A second, smaller, revolving carousel on the main index page and the sport pages allows for promotions and advertisements that Cornell Big Red fans will enjoy. Cornell's sponsors align the bottom of the page, as do links to the Big Red's affiliate organizations.

The sport pages include a social media bar below the main story that features links to sport-specific social media offerings, while sport-specific videos and photo galleries are also available.

With the move to HTML5 comes the elimination of Flash technology on the site, so we say goodbye to one of CornellBigRed.com's staples – the shaking Touchdown the Bear. There are new features that will be introduced in the coming weeks, including a totally redesigned Athletics Hall of Fame site.
