PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Cornell men's soccer picked up a huge victory on Saturday afternoon, dispatching Brown 1-0 at Stevenson Field in Providence, R.I. The victory evens the Big Red's record in Ivy League play at 2-2, while it extends the team's single-season record with its 10th shutout of the year.

Freshman wingback Eric Nuss notched his first collegiate goal exactly at the 30-minute mark of the opening half. Sophomore center back Ralph Lee Price IV started the scoring play, working the ball up to Chris St. Germain in the target forward role. The sophomore striker worked the ball to the left wing to Nuss who launched a laser from outside the 10-yard box into the back of the net.

Senior keeper Zach Zagorski made five saves to record his ninth clean sheet of the season. With the shutout he moves past Jim Ross '76 into first place on the program's all-time list for single-season shutouts. He now has 14 career clean sheets, moving all-alone into third place for career clean sheets.

After securing the lead, Cornell (9-4-1, 2-2-0 Ivy League) turned to its league leading defense and goal keeping to shut down the Brown (3-5-5, 1-2-1 Ivy League) attack. While the Bears outshot the Big Red 16-7 in the contest, only five attempts made it to net. Zagorski was typically in impeccable position to make the stops necessary to make the lead stand up.

Senior right back Peter Chodas, sophomore mid Jack Ferguson and senior mid Conor Goepel added shots for the Big Red, but were not able to add on against Brown keeper Mitch Kupstas.

The victory pulls the Big Red into fifth place in the Ivy League standings with six points. Cornell sits just one point back of a three-way tie for second place with Penn, Harvard, and Princeton. Dartmouth leads the conference with nine points, after securing a 1-0 overtime victory over Columbia. The Big Red will hold some of its destiny in its hands as the team will face two teams that sit in front in the standings – Princeton and Dartmouth – over the next two weeks.

The Big Red will return home for its next two contests. It will welcome Princeton to Berman Field for a 5 p.m. kick on Nov. 1 and Dartmouth for a 5 p.m. kick on Nov. 8.
