ITHACA, N.Y. -- After splitting a pair of contests in the fall, the Cornell women's polo team won the rubber match against defending national champion Virginia by topping the Cavaliers 25-7 on Friday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 11-3 on the season.
Kailey Eldredge, who missed the first two meetings, earned the start alongside
Anna Winslow and
Devin Cox. The Big Red started with a goal by each player to take a 3-0 lead, and by the end of the first it was 7-3. Cornell continued to increase its lead in the second and took a 12-4 lead into halftime. The third saw more of the same as the Big Red continued its onslaught by taking an 18-5 lead into the fourth. There was no let up as the home team tallied another seven scores to take the win at 25-7. It was surprising to take the win by as much as they did, but it also showed that the team is starting to gel again. Cox scored 11 goals, while Eldredge had seven, Winslow notched six and there was one penalty goal.
