Women's Polo Rallies For Win At Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Cornell women's polo team rallied from a five-goal halftime deficit to knock off Virginia 17-16 in a shootout on Friday evening. The Big Red improved to 13-3 overall with the victory.

Devin Cox, Anna Winslow and Kailey Eldredge started off slowly by falling behind 4-0. The Cavaliers would balloon that lead to 7-1  at the end of the first chukker. Cornell got it going in the second by scoring the first four to close it to 7-5, but the home team scored the last three to extend back to a 10-5 half time lead. In the third, the Big Red closed to within 11-10 at the chukker break for the horse rest before once again seeing the Cavaliers move out to a 14-11 lead going into the fourth. The Big Red again closed to within one goal at 14-13 before Virginia reclaimed a two-goal lead at 15-13. Cornell was able to start a three-goal run that gave them their first lead of the night befroe Virginia tied on a late penalty goal to send it to a shootout. Cornell out scored Virginia 2-1 to take home the 17-16 win over the Cavaliers. Winslow scored nine goals, Eldredge had five and Cox scored two.
