PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Cornell softball coach Dick Blood's 300th career win came as the program's first-ever NCAA tournament victory when the Big Red defeated Long Beach State in 2005. His 600th may have helped Cornell back into the Ivy League championship picture.

The Big Red completed an Ivy League weekend road sweep with a pair of victories over Brown on Saturday afternoon at Brown Softball Field, topping the Bears 8-3 in game one and 7-1 in game two. The wins improved the Big Red to 12-15 (4-2 Ivy). Cornell is now tied atop the Ancient Eight standings in the South Division with Columbia at 4-2.

The wins also made Blood the first Cornell coach to win 600 career games in a single sport. His record in his 19 seasons in the Big Red dugout is now an impressive 600-312-2 (.658), including 196-93 in Ivy play (.678).

Meg Parker had another excellent effort in the circle and helped her cause with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI in an 8-3 victory. Parker went six innings and scattered seven hits with three earned runs while striking out seven for the Big Red.

Emily Weinberg and Jessica Bigbie also had two hits apiece, with Bigbie driving in three runs. Senior Christina Villalon had two RBI in the win.

Cornell jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three and a half innings and wasn't threatened. The Bears scored a lone run in the fourth to save them from being run-ruled, then added two more in the sixth for the final margin.

Parker's two-run homer in the first set the tone and Villalon had a two-run single in the third to make it 4-0. The big blow came in a four-run fourth that featured an RBI single by Parker and a bases clearing double by Bigbie.

Game Two – Box Score (PDF)
Cornell pounded out 14 hits  and the Big Red cruised to a 7-1 win in the nightcap behind the arm of Alyson Onyon. The senior went the distance, allowing four hits and one run while striking out eight.

The Big Red posted five extra-base hits, including a triple and home run from the bat of Michiko McGivney. The sophomore was one of six Cornell hitters with multi-hit games.

The first inning again set the tone, as McGivney opened the contest with a triple down the rightfield line before scoring two batters later on a wild pitch. The lead grew to 3-0 in the third when McGivney homered to lead off the inning before Bigbie singled up the middle for another run.

After the Bears got on the board with a single run in the third, Cornell put the game away with four runs in the fifth. Jenny Edwards had a two-run double and both Sophie Giaquinto and Chloe Pendergast drove in runs.

Cornell returns to non-conference action at home when the Big Red meets Colgate on Tuesday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m. at Niemand*Robison Field.
