Box Score Box ScoreAll-tournament Team ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's soccer team was handed a bitter loss Sunday in the final game of the Big Red Shootout, when Temple scored with 2 minutes, 2 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to earn a 2-1 victory at Berman Field. Senior forward
Kerry Schubert scored the lone goal for Cornell (3-1).
Kelly Farrell scored both goals for Temple (7-0), including the winner in the 108th minute. A corner kick from the right side was initially cleared back in that direction, but it was re-served toward the back post. Temple's Gabriella McKeown was the first to it, with the ball caroming off the back of her shoulder back across goal. Farrell was about to cash in from close range and clinch the Big Red Shootout title for the Owls.
Schubert's goal tied the game in the game in the 23rd minute. Sophomore midfielder
Elizabeth Crowell served a ball on a corner kick from the right side. Schubert got a head to it from about 15 yards out from goal, and the ball bounced just inside the far post along the ground for her first goal since the season opener in 2013. The assist made Crowell the tournament's highest scorer with five points over the two games.
Temple got off to a fast start with Farrell's first goal of the afternoon in the eighth minute. A ball hit forward toward the top of the box was challenged by Big Red sophomore goalkeeper
Kelsey Tierney, but Farrell was able to block the clearing try and kick the ball into the net before the Cornell defense could recover. Playing in its fourth game of the season, it was the first goal conceded this season for Cornell.
The Big Red finished second in the tournament with a 1-1 record. St. Bonaventure had an identical record, but finished third by virtue of the goals-scored tiebreaker. VMI was fourth with two losses.
Cornell had three representatives on the all-tournament team, including Crowell, junior forward
Caroline Growney and junior defender
Charlotte Tate. Growney was tied for second in tournament scoring with Farrell, one point behind Crowell.
The Big Red will regroup in advance of next weekend's pair of games, starting with a 4 p.m. Friday contest against Buffalo at Berman Field.
