ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo knocked off the nation's top collegiate team, defeating top-ranked Virginia 15-8 on Friday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 13-3 on the season with the win and upped its home record to 11-1.
Devin Cox, Emma Eldredge and Anna Winslow started the contest, only to see the Cavaliers take the lead - its only lead of the night. The BIg Red took the lead to 4-2 after the first. Cornell held UVa scoreless in the second chukker to take a 7-2 lead into the half. Virginia got back within 9-7 heading into the third, but Cornell stepped up in the fourth and took control by outscoring the Cavaliers 6-1 to bring home the win in convincing fashion. Winsloow tallied seven goals, Cox had five, Eldrege notched two and there was one penalty goal. Â
