NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale Bulldogs swept a Sunday afternoon doubleheader from Cornell, winning games by scores of 9-2 in the opener and 3-1 in the nightcap. Yale imrpved to 11-21 (4-4 Ivy), while the Big Red slipped to 4-20 (1-7 Ivy).
Game 1Cornell scratched out eight hits, including five doubles, but the Big Red surrendered four runs in the first inning and couldn't recover in a 9-2 loss.
Jessica Bigbie and
Rebecca Kubena each drove in a run, but Lindsay Efflandt hurled a complete game effort for the Bulldogs. Allison Skinner ended the game 3-for-4 with four RBI and both Shelby Kennedy and Lauren Delgadillo had two hits apiece.
Game 2Yale scored two runs in the fifth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and held off the Big Red for a 3-1 victory. The loss overshadowed senior
Meg Parker's fifth home run of the season and 19th of her career, moving her into 10th on the school's career list.
Parker had a solid showing in the circle, scattering six hits and just two earned runs in the complete game loss. She couldn't quite match Francesca Casalino, as the Bulldog allowed just five hits and one run in her seven innings. She struck out six. Parker was 2-for-2 with her home run and was also hit by a pitch.
Rachel Paris tripled in the go-ahead runs in the fifth as the Bulldogs completed the season sweep.
