Men's Squash Readies For Mid-Week Trek to Hobart, Rochester

ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's squash team will visit a pair of regional foes on Wednesday when it travels to Hobart and Rochester. The match against the Statesmen is scheduled for noon in Geneva, then the Big Red will trek west to Rochester for a 6 p.m. tilt against the Yellowjackets.

Cornell (4-1, 1-1 Ivy League) is currently ranked 10th by the College Squash Association after an 8-1 loss to Yale on Saturday and an 8-1 victory over Brown on Sunday. Sophomore Andy Muran won both of his matches from the No. 3 position, and a pair of five-set victories from senior Augie Jones and sophomore Alex Jung clinched the win over the Bears in the middle rotation.

Hobart (3-7) is coming off a four-day, four-match road trip through New England that wrapped up with a 5-4 win over Bowdoin. Josh Oakley is 4-6 from the No. 1 position and Terrance Rose has a team-high five victories, exclusively from the No. 4 spot. Cornell is 46-5 all-time against Hobart, having conceded just two points in the teams' last eight meetings.

Rochester (4-1) was ranked third in the country last week before it split a pair of mid-week matches on the road. First, the Yellowjackets avenged a 2016 Potter Cup championship loss to second-ranked Yale with an emphatic 8-1 victory on Tuesday. But Rochester couldn't close out on multiple match points on Thursday, eventually losing 5-4 to fifth-ranked Columbia.

Even though Rochester is in a different conference, the Yellowjackets are the Big Red's most common opponent in Cornell's program history. The Big Red holds a dominating 56-16 advantage in the all-time series, though Rochester has won six of last seven meetings. The lone Cornell victory in that span came by a 6-3 margin on Jan. 23, 2013 at Belkin International Squash Courts.
