ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's squash team will look to rebound this weekend with matches against Franklin & Marshall and Columbia. Cornell (5-5, 1-1 Ivy League) is tabbed 10th in the College Squash Association's national rankings from Jan. 15, though it shouldered three losses last weekend and figures to slip down after a setback to No. 12 George Washington. The match against Franklin & Marshall (7-7) is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Belkin International Squash Center, marking the Big Red penultimate home match of the season. The match is free to attend and open to the public.
Seniors
Harry Freeman and
Augie Jones are tied for the team lead with six victories. Sophomore
Alex Jung was the only member of the team to win a pair of matches last weekend, improving to 5-3 from the bottom part of the order.
The Diplomats were most recently ranked 13th, though a loss to No. 18 Bates at last weekend's Amherst Round Robin may slide F&M down a little. Cole Osborne is 6-7 from the top spot, and Yannis Senkel has a five-match winning streak from Nos. 3 and 4 spots in the order. Cornell holds a narrow 25-23 lead in the all-time series against F&M after an 8-1 victory during the final weekend of team matches last year.
Cornell will then travel to SL Green StreetSquash for a challenging Ivy League match against Columbia (6-1, 2-0). In a span of four days, the Lions defeated two of the nation's top three teams in Rochester (5-4) and Yale (7-2) to ascend to the program's highest all-time CSA ranking — No. 2. Osama Khalifa is 7-0 from the No. 1 position, having finished last season ranked sixth in the nation. Rishi Tandon and Seif Attia round out the top third of the order.
Cornell leads the all-time series against Columbia, 3-2, since the Lions resurrected their program for the 2011-12 season. The Lions won last year's meeting, 7-2.
