NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The women's soccer team continued its recent stretch of staunch performances on the road with a 0-0 tie against Yale on Saturday at Reese Stadium. Cornell (2-6-3, 0-2-2 Ivy League) has now scratched out scoreless draws in each of its last three road games, while in the process extending its series unbeaten streak against Yale (8-3-2, 2-1-1) to three games.
Junior goalkeeper
Meghan Kennedy made eight saves to record her third shutout of the season, plus an alert charge-and-punch with about four minutes to play in the second overtime to thwart the Bulldogs' best scoring chance of extra time.
In a clean game that featured no cards and just six fouls on the fast articifial track at Reese, the Big Red was able to stave off the Bulldogs' potent attack. Of particular note was the containment of forward Michelle Alozie — who entered the day ranked second in the Ivy League with 19 points. She attempted nine shots, but was defended well by primarily sophomore
Abby Adams.
Cornell got both of its on-target shots late in the first 10-minute overtime period. The first came off the foot of senior forward
Paige DeLoach, then she set up the second after weaving her way between two defenders to enter the left side of the box. Her pass toward the middle was poked away from a charging junior midfielder
Jessica Ritchie before caroming to sophomore
Juliana Comer on the right side. She had a crack from 12 yards, but Yale's Alyssa Fagel made a diving save to her left.
The Big Red returns home to take on Brown on its Senior Day, when the team's eight fourth-year players will be honored during the 1:30 p.m. Saturday tilt at Berman Field.
