No. 25 Columbia Bests Men's Soccer, 2-0, in Season Finale

ITHACA, N.Y. – The men's soccer team closed out the 2017 season with another tough battle against a ranked opponent as No. 25 Columbia visited Berman Field on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Lions came away with a 2-0 victory following a strong second-half performance.

In the 60th minute, Francisco Agrest from Columbia (11-2-3, 5-1-1 Ivy) intercepted the ball on the edge of the box and dribbled it around a Cornell (7-8-2, 2-4-1 Ivy) player before sending in a shot that found the upper right-hand corner of the net.

Arthur Bosua netted the insurance goal less than three minutes later to put Columbia up 2-0 for good. Bosua, one of the most prolific-scoring players in the nation, put in a header off of a free kick from Agrest to earn the score.

The clash between the two teams was gritty in the first half, with the majority of play happening in the middle of the field. It wasn't until the 17th minute that a shot went off with goalkeeper Mitchell Meyer making the save from Agrest's strike.

The Big Red's offensive attack was spread out amongst the team, with all eight of the team's shots coming from seven different players. Harry Fuller led the squad with two shots.

Both Columbia and Cornell were even in corner kicks, with both teams taking five. Meyer collected eight saves in his final game for the Big Red while the Lions' Dylan Castanheira made one.

The match was a special one for the graduating seniors as all six of them saw playing time in their final game donning the Carnelian Red and White.

Overall, the squad saw major improvement from last year, winning seven games this season including two Ivy League tilts.
