ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo team advanced its record to 5-2 on the year with a sweep of regional opponents, topping Skidmore 18-3 on Friday at home before topping Harvard 12-11 on the road on Sunday.
On Friday night, the Big Red built a 7-1 lead after the first chukker. The second saw the home team increase its lead to a 13-1 at the break. Cornell was able to substitute freely in the second half, cruising to the 18-3 victory.
On Sunday, Harvard scored first, but Cornell responded with four unanswered goals to lead 4-1 after the first. The Crimson answered in the second with three goals to tie it at 4-5, but the Big Red snuck into the break leading 5-4. The two teams traded goals throughout the third with each scoring five times. Cornell never trailed during the chukker and led 10-9 heading to the fourth. Cornell built a 12-9 lead heading into the final 30 seconds. Harvard scored a two-pointer with seconds left to make the final score 12-11.
